Direct hydrogen gas generation by using InGaN epilayers as working electrodes

چکیده
We report on the growth and exploitation of InGaN epilayers as a photoelectrochemical cell PEC material for direct generation of hydrogen by splitting water using photoelectrochemical hydrolysis. Under white light illumination, a drastic dependence of the photocurrent density on the In content was observed. Direct hydrogen gas generation by splitting water was accomplished using an n-type InxGa1−xN epilayer with a relatively high In content x 0.4 as a working electrode. This demonstration of hydrogen generation by water splitting accomplished using InGaN based PEC is highly encouraging. © 2008 American Institute of Physics. DOI: 10.1063/1.3006332

Development of indium-rich InGaN epilayers for integrated tandem solar cells
InGaN epilayers have been investigated for use in photovoltaic solar cells for the past years. At present, almost all photovoltaic device structures reported have exhibited very low short circuit currents and thus very low solar conversion efficiency. This phenomenon has been attributed to point and extended defect chemistry in InGaN epilayers (e.g. vacancies, misfit dislocations, and V-defects...
متن کاملElectrochemical Sensing of H2S Gas in Air by Carboxylated Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes
The electrochemical sensor for detecting hydrogen sulfide was fabricated. H2S gas molecules pass through polytetrafluoroethylene membrane with 0.22 mm pore size. Carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) were used to fabricate working and counter electrodes. It can be seen from Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) images of the working electrode that...
متن کاملHydrogen generation from hydrolysis of sodium borohydride using sulfonated porous carbon as reagent/catalyst
The hydrolysis of sodium borohydride as a source of hydrogen gas is studied at different mole ratios of H+ to NaBH4. The sulfonated porous carbon (SPC) is used as a source of hydrogen ion and catalyst. It is found that the sulfonated porous carbon exhibits high activity for the hydrolysis of NaBH4 to generate hydrogen gas at room temperature in comparison to Amberlyst-15 and Nafion-NR50. The ki...

متن کاملGRADED InGaN BUFFERS FOR STRAIN RELAXATION IN GaN/InGaN EPILAYERS GROWN ON SAPPHIRE
Graded InGaN buffers were employed to relax the strain arising from the lattice and thermal mismatch in GaN/InGaN epilayers grown on sapphire. An enhanced strain relaxation was observed in GaN grown on a stack of five InGaN layers, each 200 nm thick with the In content increased in each layer, and with an intermediate thin GaN layer, 10 nm thick inserted between the InGaN layers, as compared to...
